A Day of Fasting called for Friday, June 12, 2020, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Friend of Sinners Mission Church is calling for a fast every Friday during the Covid-19 crisis. The observance of days of fasting as God may direct is both scriptural and rational. Fasting may be observed by families and by entire congregations. It is left to church leadership to determine fasting days for our congregation, and it is the duty of the members and attenders of Friend of Sinners Church to pay all due respect to it. We will provide devotionals for family worship on Friday via social media and online here, and we encourage for all those participating to pray, sing psalms or hymns, read Scripture, and listed to the preaching of God’s Word throughout the day. This is a time of meditation, worship and repentance. Fasting Instructions: We are abstaining from eating from 7 AM to 7 PM every Friday until further notice. Please be sure to drink plenty of liquids. Follow the instruction of health officials to prevent infection. Do not sacrifice your health to fast. Please keep in mind that a holy fast is not simply abstaining from food. Fasting is worship. Scripture defines fasting as a time of service before God and toward each other. We are told to relieve suffering, to bring food to the hungry, to provide clothing to the naked. Acts of mercy like these are all permitted during this crisis. Please be sure to also follow the requirements of your local government put in place to inhibit the spread of the virus. See how the Lord defines fasting in Isaiah 58:6-12 "Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. May God bless you in this Holy Time of Worship. |
